A six-Phase Approach to Design

We believe that great design requires more than just creativity. It requires research, analysis and close collaboration with you to reflect your companies’ or personal vision. To ensure that our design aligns with your expectations, we’ve developed a six-phase process to guide us every step of the way.

Phase I: Research

Before any actual creative work begins, The Creative Group conducts background research. We will meet with you and/or relevant stakeholders to understand your goals, requirements and project expectations. If your project is existing, we will assess what works, what requires improvement and what doesn’t work, what is to be maintained and what is to be removed. We will conduct a full site investigation – Assess Site constraints, services & site dimensions. Once our research is complete, we will provide a creative brief to summarise the results of our inquiries and outline the project, along with a detailed project schedule to ensure on-time delivery.

Phase 2: Design

When our analysis is complete and you have signed off on phase 1, we commence with the design. We keep your communication needs and priorities at the core of every design decision – from functionality, aesthetics, materials, experience and expectation. Phase 2 involves the following design stages and in order of process. Each stage is signed off by the client prior to transitioning to the next stage.

Space Planning: This stage looks at how the physical space is used. We consider the functionality of the space, flow and circulation within the space, assessing potential bottlenecks and congestion points in commercial spaces with consideration to customer & staff occupancy. This stage is the foundation to good design in any project as it ensures efficient use of the area without wasting valuable floor space. It also accounts for all possible uses within that space.

Concept Design: We Explore, analyse, deconstruct and put back together ideas to create fit for purpose & strong design direction for your space. Research and Knowledge of your concept & the environment in which it is to be integrated helps create meaning & connection to the space & maintains occupant interest. We aim to present designs which provides longevity and adds value to your business and residential spaces that are beautiful functional and balanced.

Developed Design: During this stage we specify as well as detail all the build-able items & workup a documentation set for both consent, tender and construction. Our knowledge of the building code, construction and joinery detailing allows us to provide a drawing set that is detailed to a level that trades can visualise the design, while being mindful of the cost of product and labour which is reflected in the overall budget.

Phase 3: Tendering:

The Creative Group have built up good relationships with a variety of trades & suppliers over the years and can manage the tendering process on your behalf. We also understand that some clients have preferred tradespeople or wish to manage the project themselves.

Phase 4: Consent Submission:

The Creative Group will manage all council submissions & liaison with local body authorities and external consultants. We collate all relevant information relating to your building consent; drawings sets, external consultants’ documentation and producers’ statements, landlord documents ie; Certificate of title, lease agreements & landlord approvals.

Phase 5: Installation:

Throughout the construction process The Creative Group can provide design and implementation management remotely and on site. This process provides quality assurance that what has been designed has been understood and implemented by trades. We liaise regularly throughout the process with associated tradespeople i.e.; joiners & builders, both in factory and on site, ensuring that all buildable items have been constructed correctly, anything that is incorrect is picked up early and eliminates a knock-on effect to other areas of the build and assists in maintaining the project timeline.

Phase 6: Evaluation

After the design is complete, we follow up with you to assess the outcome of the project. We are keen to hear not only your insights on our process and designs, but also any feedback you have received from others.
